Let's Think Of A New Interior Design Style Name

Shabby chic remains to trend and it's one of interior design styles you either love or loathe! I think the problem may be that many people think the style is a good excuse for having an untidy home – just call it 'shabby chic'!

However, in reality shabby chic is it's own distinctive style which takes as much planning and thought as any other design style. It may be the case that a new name needs to be found for those rooms which are crammed full of clutter, somehow 'clutter chic' doesn't have the same ring to it!

Then of course there's the rustic look which is also used for many interiors which aren't truly rustic, just unfinished! As with shabby chic, rustic interiors also need to be considered carefully to achieved the desired look.

Maybe these unfinished homes should just be given the tag 'lived-in look'? as many people don't have the time, money or inclination to make the most of their homes.

Creating any style needs to be well planned and yet to achieve most you don't need to spend a fortune. Opt for bamboo roller blinds or wooden blinds cheap, cheerful and can create a stunningly simplistic style to windows.

Try Fabric Printing To Make Your Own Art Work!

Add a touch of spring to your bedroom with beautiful colour combinations of lime and purple. Set against a white back drop these colours create a gorgeous colour scheme which suits modern and contemporary homes beautifully.

Adding wall art with identical colours brings the room together and is a great way to add new dimensions and looks to a bedroom. Do away with the traditions of formal prints or pop art and deck your bedroom walls with the 'unusual' which team with your bedding sets.

If you fancy trying your hand at some 'cut work' or unusual paint effects you can be inspired by others! With the availability of buying fabric online you can mix and match patterns and colours to suit your living space.

Look for patterned fabrics which offer the opportunity to cut out the detailing and then use this to make prints in your chosen colour, a bit like potato printing you did when you were younger, with an adult twist!

There are lots of great ideas for bringing a fresh new look to your home online; if you can't think of your own ideas then take snippets and looks from other people, after all that's what great interior design ideas are all about – sharing with others!

Change Your Accessories To Bring A Room Back To Life

As we all know it's the finishing touches which lifts a room and gives it the 'wow' factor. Yes, of course you have to get the colour scheme right, along with positioning furniture to make the most of the available space within a room, but it's the creature comforts which transform the look of rooms by providing balance and cohesion.

Table lamps contemporary in style are one accessory which no home should be without. They don't have to be matching, if fact table lamps with different base shapes and shades add to the interest of the room as well as being ideal to create the right mood and ambience in a room.

Most homes in the UK have central ceiling lighting and whilst this is okay when you need to illuminate the entire room they can cause a room to look either over illuminated or harsh. Soft and gentle lighting placed strategically around a room offers a much calmer and refined lighting effect which is also conducive to relaxation and provides an informal homely feel.

Look for table lamps with unusual shaped bases, along with shades which coordinate with you colour scheme, turn off the central light and you'll be surprised at the difference within the room.

So rather than re-decorate try adding new accessories, such as table and floor lamps, cushions and rugs to bring a tired looking room back to life.

Simple Patterns Made Into Stunning Style

Patterns play a huge part of our lives and although you may not be a 'pattern person' and prefer plain fabrics for your home, there is something simply stunning about stripes and zigzags which is almost mesmerising.

Blue stripes on a white background give a nautical look which is very on-trend this year. Choosing lightly quilted bedspreads king size of course, provides a sleek and stylish way to give your bed and your bedroom the 'wow' factor.

These colour combinations also provide a crisp, clean look to the room, add the bed canopy with a slightly smaller stripe and the eye is automatically drawn upwards, which is a great way of making ceilings appear higher.

The all important finishing touches need to be kept with the same crisp, clean lines and yet adding a different pattern in such a subtle way is the perfect answer to having a beautifully made made bed and a stunning bedroom to-boot.

If blue is not your preferred colour the same effects can be achieved using just about any other colour teamed with white to get the clean look. Red striped adds a touch of drama and romance which is ideal for bedrooms, just remember that the darker the stripes the more of an impact they will make.

Create A Light And Airy Feel To Your Rooms

Voile curtains are great for creating a light and airy feel to your room; they are not as heavy as other curtain fabrics and give a full, flowing look to your window dressing. Voile curtains are ideal to use in bedrooms and living rooms where the décor is bright and uncluttered.

Choose from a wide range of styles and colours; plain, stripes, floral, contemporary, to complement and enhance your interior. As well as light colours, lined voiles also come in some truly stunning darker (and even black) colour ways to add a touch of drama to your room.

Voile curtains can be made from lots of different fabrics, including linen, organza and made-made. To add additional substances to the curtain but without adding too much bulk or heaviness, you might decide to use lined voile curtains, with a poly cotton lining.

These will still let plenty of light into your room but at the same time provide more privacy then unlined curtains. Lined voiles can be full-length, just to the window sill, draped or even used as a decorative room divider.

Lined voile curtains can be made with eyelet, tab-top, ring-top or pleated headings and many styles come ready-to-hang with matching pelmets and tie-backs.

Why not use voile curtains to create a stunning look to your bathroom as they offer elegant and privacy effortlessly!

Beautiful Nursery Bedding Sets

When designing and decorating a baby’s nursery one of the most important features is the cot and bedding. It is such a lovely, exciting project to create a warm, cosy room for your baby and home ware shops are bursting with so many wonderful designs and colour schemes for you to choose from.

You may decide to go for a traditional blue or pink theme or maybe something more neutral such as green or yellow. Often bedding sets are decorated with delightful embroidered characters like bunnies, teddies and fluffy yellow ducks!

Baby bedding sets, which often make up part of a complete range of nursery accessories, usually consist of sheets, blankets, duvet cover, pillow cases and a cot bumper. Baby bedding is made using extra soft materials, such as 100% cotton percale, so that they are kind and caring to baby’s delicate skin.

For younger babies it is recommended to use sheets and blankets and then move on to duvets and pillows when the baby is about a year old. Cot bumpers help to keep the cot cosy and draught free, but it important to check the bumper ties regularly to ensure that they are secure. Baby bedding sets and matching soft toys make wonderful gifts for a new arrival.

Window Dressings Made Easy – Tab Top Curtains

Tab top curtains are a good choice for your room if you are looking to create a simple, informal feel. The curtains are hung by means of tabs spaced evenly along the top of the curtains, through which the a curtain pole is threaded.

You can use tab top curtains in many different setting and fabrics depending on what function you want your curtain to fulfil. The beauty of tab top curtains is that they can be made from just about any kind of fabric, from the lightest, sheerest voile to the heaviest, richest velvet.

You may want to create a romantic, feminine look in your bedroom in which case a delicate voile hung in the window recess will look pretty, whilst providing privacy. You can also hang curtains outside the recess, if you want to.

Alternatively, you might want thicker curtains to give a warmer, cosier feel to your room. Again, tab tops are an option. One thing to bear in mind, however, with tab top curtains is that they lie flatter across the window than other types of curtains and give a less full appearance. To achieve the best look when the curtains are drawn it is important that you have a 1.5 to 2 times the amount of fabric to the width of the window to gather in them for a stylish look.

We Spend A Significant Proportion Of Our Time Asleep!

Everyone relishes the thought of climbing into a cosy, inviting bed and snuggling down for a good night’s sleep. We spend a significant proportion of our time asleep so it makes sense to make our bed as comfortable as possible.

The type of bedding that we choose can have a big impact of how inviting our bed is; luxury bedding in particular will go a long way to creating a truly gorgeous place to sleep. Top quality fabrics will be supremely soft and comfortable against the skin and will ensure that the bedding stays perfect all night long.

There are two main fabrics to choose from; Egyptian cotton and Silk. Egyptian cotton is traditionally used in luxury bedding as the high thread-count of the fabric ensures a superior smoothness and coolness.

Silk is also used in top quality bedding; it has a wonderfully soft feel against the skin and a beautiful sheen. It also has the additional benefit of being hypo-allergenic.

All types of bedding, including duvet covers, pillow cases, sheets and bedspreads can be bought in these luxury fabrics. There are specialist companies, particularly on the Internet, who manufacture and supply a vast array of different styles and designs of wonderful bedding.

The Benefits Of Beautiful Luxury Bedding

Embroidery is often used to enhance and embellish bed linen, especially in the higher-priced luxury ranges. Embroidery creates a rich, textured appearance and can create truly stunning effects.

These days, as with everything relating to bedding, many different varieties of embroidered bed linen is available, depending on the style of bedroom you want to create.

You may be wanting to design a traditional, timeless setting, in which case a floral chintz fabric will create a delicate, feminine environment. This design could be carried through the whole décor, to include wall-paper and curtains.

Alternatively, the style you want to create might be modern and contemporary with a more minimalist feel. In which case, the many ranges of luxury bedding created by today’s popular interior designers may well include just what you are looking for. Again, these ranges usually include matching, complementary items which can be added to maintain the colour scheme and design throughout your whole room.

Although embroidered bedding tends to be more expensive than other types because of the level of workmanship involved in manufacturing it, you can still find some very stylish and beautiful ranges available in high-street stores at reasonable prices. A fantastic embroidered bed-spread can make a great focal point for your bedroom.

Using The Natural Beauty Of Wood

Natural wood remains at the top of the interior design world list of 'must haves' in both traditional and modern homes.

As you know wood comes in many different colours and sources and it is these which make each piece of furniture or home uniquely different. Nature is of course a master at providing us with coordinating colour schemes! The use of a combination of light and dark wood within the same room offers an understated touch of refinement.

If you also coordinate your soft furnishings and window dressing with one of the wood colours you can automatically create a beautiful interiors which flows and has a sense of balance and cohesion.

Dark wooden curtain poles which compliment the window casing and flooring provides an elegant look, in contrast coordinate your curtains with the colour of a chest or perhaps a bed frame and you have once again achieved balance within the room.

The same principles apply in any style of home, even those with a contemporary style will look stunning when balance and fluidity is incorporated within the room.

Bombard your eyes with an unstructured and disorganisation jumble and you'll end up with a headache! This is not to say rooms have to be dull and boring – far from it! But they should have a sense of purpose and direction.

Practical Window Dressing Or Not?

Have you found that sometimes a pair of curtains just get in the way? If you have, maybe you'd like to try this new window dressing concept of having only one curtain hung from a short curtain pole!

We have all seen one large curtain which is wept to one side and held in place with a tieback, however this new look is totally different as only one half of the window can ever have a curtain pulled across it.

This may be innovative but is it really practical? I suppose the answer depends on whether your room is overlooked. If it's not them this style is certainly worth considering and is ideal for a single curtain panel of organza, voile curtains or lightweight natural linen fabric.

You have to admit that the idea would certainly solve many window dressing dilemmas and if you were over-looked by neighbours you could also use cheap blinds in a complimentary colour which can be pulled down at night and not interfere with the curtain panel.

Team with your duvet sets and you can transform a bedroom into a very chic style which looks far nicer than trying to get a curtain to hang properly behind a piece of furniture! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Use Your Windows To Their Full Potential!

I'm sure you're well aware about the interior designer's language of 'framing' and making focal points within your home. This is a classic example which shows the example perfectly!

Sheer voile curtains swept back from the centre offers a soft and subtle look to windows which maximise the amount of natural light entering the room. However, if like many home in the UK you are over looked by neighbours or your window looks out onto the street you may wish to consider using lined voile curtains.

These will provide you with the same soft look, admittedly not quite as much light will come into the room, but they do provide you with more privacy when they are pulled closed at night. Alternatively you could use lightweight curtains in conjunction with blinds. This will enable you to leave the curtains in-situ as the blind can be pulled down at night to give you the privacy you need.

Window dressing have to be more than purely functional. They are a key factor in producing stunning interiors which have the 'wow' factor. So the next time you look for a window dressing weigh up all the pros and cons of the different varieties which are widely available. It's well worth taking that little bit of extra thought if you want to emulate professional interior design styles!

It Doesn't Have To Valentine's Day To Have Hearts On Your Bedding Sets!

I'm sure we are all aware that this Sunday is February 14th, Valentine's Day where all over the world lovers young and old will be sharing their special thoughts with their Valentine!

If you think that you're too old for all this stuff and nonsense find the romantic within you and treat your loved one to breakfast in bed, it is Sunday after all!

I love this luxury bedding by designer Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen. True to his reputation this bedding is flamboyant and sumptuous! What is even more inviting is the fact that it's hearts but not red or pink! Beautifully detailed with added accessories including matching pillow slips and the heart-shaped cushions give this bedding set a very unique look which would grace any style of home wonderfully. With it's bold design it would instantly add drama to a bedroom and also create a vibrant focal point.

Furthermore this style of bedding would like superb any time of the year, not just Valentine's Day. Team with matching curtains or black or white cheap Venetian blinds and a stunning monochromatic bedroom can be achieved so effectively and effortlessly!

Meet this year's trend of incorporating different fabric textures by choosing accessories made from tactile materials such as suede, silk, wool and embellishments, which all add to achieving stunning looking interiors irrespective of your budget.

Chic And Contemporary Clean Lines

This has to be the the epitome of a contemporary bathroom using natural stone. Providing an opulent space which is simply stunning, although it doesn't actually look usable! Who would want to spoil the look by adding the necessary bathroom commodities of everyday living?

The use of natural stone in bathrooms continues to be extremely popular, the subtle colour tones make each vanity unit or bath completely unique. Having a bespoke bathroom has to be the dream of many people and yet although this bathroom is fabulous it does lack homeliness in my opinion.

It also demonstrates to perfection the versatility of cheap Venetian blinds and the beautiful light effects they produce. Of course Venetian blinds are the perfect window dressing in any style of bathroom, irrespective of its size. The latest designs have special coatings which make them moisture resistant and ideal for the humid atmospheres of bathrooms, along with providing the necessary privacy from the outside world!

Venetian blinds are infamous for providing clean lines for windows in modern and contemporary homes and although they are still used in work places and offices they have found their way into people's homes in spectacular style!

Give Yourself A Winter Home Improvement Project

Up-cycling and recycling continue to make a huge impression of the world of interior design. It's not only kinder to the planet it's also kinder to the pocket!

I love the idea of selecting random styles of chairs painting them and re-upholstering the seats with the same fabric to give a sense of cohesion and balance. With the wide choice of curtain material online you can find some fabulous patterns and designs at really low prices. Just image how much chairs like this would cost if bought pre-done?

Have some fun in your spare time and actually get round to carrying out a DIY project which doesn't involve painting walls or building cupboards from scratch. The great thing about this type of project is that you can take your time and complete it over a number of months as you find another chair in need of some TLC, just remember to but sufficient fabric if you want the chair seats to match.

Alternatively you could use completely different fabrics just as long as the shades and tone compliment each other, and still produce some simply stunning dining chairs!

If you opt for patterned fabric if you have plain walls and curtains or plain fabric if you have patterned walls and curtains otherwise the chic styling you're trying to achieve may just end up looking like a mis-match which you won't be happy with!

Creating Stunning Interiors - Focal Points And Proportion

White remains interior designer's staple colour this year along with mixing old with new. Which is great news for those who want to create stunning interiors without having to spend a small fortune on decorating, furniture and soft furnishings.

The secret to success is to ensure you have a proportionally balanced room. This does not mean that everything has to be symmetrical, it means that you have to ensure that you have focal points and places for the eyes to wander straight to as people enter the room. Adding interest is a fundamental key to successful interiors, so when you re-vamp your rooms remember to give your eyes a path to follow, otherwise the room will look bland and boring.

Little touches such as using black metal curtain poles rather than white curtain tracks can make windows look chic and stylish. Simply placing the curtain poles higher than the window casing will not only give the illusion of higher windows it will also take the eyes upwards so that the whole room is viewed. Add a piece of stylish old or modern furniture which draws the eye directly to it as it begins the journey around the room.

Having a sense of direction and purpose is equally import if you want to make your rooms into those you see produced by professional interior designers.

Cheap Roller Blinds Made From Bamboo Are The Ideal Window Dressing In All Styles Of Homes

I have to admit that in many ways I am a great lover of bamboo blinds! It's their simplicity and natural look which gives me pleasure and irrespective of how many images you see of them they always look so chic and stylish!

Of course being made from natural material also has its appeal, along with the different light effects one can so easily achieve. This year the trend is to use natural products within out home and many designers are using a combination of cheap roller blinds and ready made curtains to create some stunning window dressings.

For me a bamboo blind is the ideal choice in bedrooms which don't need blackout roller blinds, so unless you don't have an unwanted light pollution entering your bedroom they are an effective and trendy way to dress your windows.

The other great advantage with any wood or natural material used as a window dressing is the gentle warmth they bring to a room, of course they also produce some wonderful lighting effects during the day time, more especially when it's sunny!

Anyone looking for an inexpensive yet chic way to dress their windows should give serious consideration to using cheap roller blinds, particularly bamboo ones!

Why? Pink For Girls And Blue For Boys!

Choosing the right colour scheme for babies and toddler's rooms continue to use the colours associated with each gender, namely blue for boys and pink for girls! But where did this stereotype originate from?

After searching and delving the history associated with these colours I have found it fascinating! In a nutshell:

Prior to WW1 it was common to dress boys in pink and girls in blue! After WW1 the colours reversed as many military uniforms were blue, this became the predominant colour for boys as it showed masculinity and strength, whilst advertising campaigns encouraged women to show their femininity and wear pink!

As we strive to reduce stereotypical assumptions, many nurseries are using pale green or sunshine yellow, however it remains 'habit' for splashes of either pink or blue to be added according to the gender of the baby!

Green tab top curtains coordinate beautifully with pink, as such these colour combinations are being found in many rooms of people's homes, not just nurseries and children's bedrooms. Whilst boys bedrooms are rarely pink, interior designers are using bold colours such as post office red, orange and even black to create inspirational kid's rooms which break the boundaries of use of colour without treading on the toes of those who remain steadfast in their stereotypical assumptions!
